Another Season Starts

Rugby. What? Isn't that the game drunk Irish men play over there in Europe? How the hell do you play that? Isn't it sort of a mix of football and soccer? Common misconceptions. Most Americans have no idea about Rugby. In fact, neither did I until last semester. If someone asked me about rugby I would've said the same things. Ask me now. Ask me how to play, ask me how I like it, ask me about the guys I've met and the things I've done since I started playing (maybe I'll leave some of those out for another blog). If you ask me I'd probably tell you because I love talking about Rugby. I have a new found respect for the game and therefore I feel it's necessary to start the word with a capital letter. From the very first day I joined as a skeptical freshmen with no idea of the rules or what the game was like or what the hell I was in for, until right now sitting in this seat excited to tell anyone who wants to hear about MY new game that they call Rugby. So what I'm trying to say is that while growing up on Long Island, a place where kids just don't play rugby, I would always look forward to football season and then the long winter would come and Lacrosse would start and I'd be as happy as I thought I could be. A New Passion. That's what I have now. All summer I saw fields of grass and I couldn't wait to get on the pitch with those awkward looking goal posts and the dotted lines. This new passion is what gave me a great reason to come back to school. Sometimes I feel like I've started over. Out with the old and in with the new. This is certainly new to me, but I'm up for trying anything and this was a great decision. The respect people have for the game and the traditions that are carried out are great. What a game.

I've never really seen people play rugby. Someone just recently asked me if I would play. However, I have no idea about the rules or anything. So hopefully from your blogs I can learn more about the game sometime!

I know nothing about Rugby (with a capital) but would like to learn - perhaps you could tell us more about the game. Maybe even write about some of the best plays you team has had in the past or this season.

Your use a capital letter for Rugby and lower case for tuesday and thursday is funny!
